Youth & Children's Activities

@the Ark

At St Lawrence, we recognise that children are a very important part of the church family and that their spiritual learning and well being is paramount. Children from  3 to 14 years old meet during the 10.00am service on Sundays for teaching and worship in their various groups for @the Ark in Church Cottage, which is our Sunday School.

@the Ark groups are called Bubbles (for 5s and under), Splash! (for 5 to 8s), Xstream (for 8 to 11s) and theGRID (for 11 to 14s)

A crèche area called the Toddlers Corner is available during the 10.00am Sunday morning service for parents with young children.

At the monthly Family Service (called Together at Ten), we worship and learn together in the church.

@the Ark recently created a special Prayer Station in the Church building for children (visit here for an audio explanation of this given to St Lawrence Church by Extended Services Worker Joanne Roberts and Tessa Cobb who leads @the Ark).

Little Lights

Every second Monday afternoon 1.45pm, all children under 5 are invited to our pram service and toddler play sessions with their Mums, Dads, Grandparents or carers. They sing rhymes and songs, play instruments, listen to a short story, say prayers and the older children make something to take home. Whilst the adults have a cuppa and a chat, the children play together. Usually have about 20 children some of which are new babies. Many of the Little Lights have been Christened and some have gone on to start in our @the Ark group Bubbles. As they grow, they learn about Jesus and how special we all are to him.

Youth Activities

Within the family life of St. Lawrence Church there is a large and lively youth group, run by willing volunteers and overseen by our Deanery Youth Worker, Chris Saunders.

Currently teenagers have opportunity to develop, examine and explore their faith through our fortnightly group called theGRID, run for 11-16 year olds on the 1st and 3rd Sundays during the morning service.

On the 2nd Sunday eve there is a teenage social group called Anoint, giving opportunity to relax together and on the 4th Sunday eve we host our regular All Age Youth Service.

As part of the wider Deanery work, teenagers from Lechlade play an active part in a weekly bible study (Thirst on a Wed eve). In addition there is an annual residential along with regular activity days offering the opportunity for faith, fun and friendship!

Further we have ‘specials’ at various times of the year, including attending Christian festivals (just come back from New Wine 2010) with a chance to receive good teaching, make new friends and serve on teams. For those who feel a call to overseas service there is also an annual Diocesan mission link with India along with more local charities we support. We get together with other local youth groups regularly and have a committed bunch who pray for our young people and students away at universities.

If you would like to volunteer to help in any way (from prayer support to making cushions or helping with a group) or would like to find out more, please do get in touch info@stlawrencelechlade.org.uk

Open the Book

The Church also maintains close contacts with its primary school, for example with Open the Book which aims to teach children the stories of the Bible. It involves an introduction, a dramatic reading of the Bible,  a summing-up to draw out the main lessons of the story and a prayer. The school caters for 4 to 11 year olds. Further details can be obtained from the school website.

 "Let the children come to me ..... for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these" (Mark 10:14)
