Core
Values
Believing:
As part of the
Church of England, we believe in God the Father, source of all being
and life. We believe in God the Son, Jesus Christ, who uniquely
reveals to us the nature and character of God.
Through
Jesus’ death on the cross, and his resurrection, he has given
humanity the only way to know God the Father and to enjoy a
relationship with Him now and in eternity.
We believe in God the
Holy Spirit, who brings the power of God into every Christian’s
life.We
believe that the Bible is God's reliable revelation of Himself,
ourselves and the world we live in.
Belonging:
In all our meetings during the week and on Sundays, St Lawrence
comes together as God's people to worship Him - Father, Son and Holy
Spirit, to learn more about Him through teaching and preaching the
Bible, to celebrate the sacraments of Holy Communion and Holy
Baptism, to encourage one another in our faith, to pray for the
needs of the world, and to be a local expression of the universal
church.
Growing:
At St Lawrence we recognise that coming to believe and trust in
Jesus is the first step in our Christian lives and that we need to
grow in faith day by day. We encourage members to belong to small
groups in which they can support one another as they study the Bible
and pray together. As part of our growing as the body of Christ, we
aim to discover and use the gifts God has given us to serve Him and
one another.
Praying:
St Lawrence acknowledges that we need to be a praying church because
prayer and work combined allow God’s Spirit to grow His Kingdom in
the world. We need to be totally dependent upon God's sovereign and
gracious power amongst us. We therefore emphasise the importance of
individual and corporate prayer.
Living:
We understand that St Lawrence exists to support, equip and enable
Christians to worship God in our day to day lives, whether at home,
at work and in the community. This includes obedience to God's Word
and serving those in need.
Reaching Out:
As
Christians we are responsible for sharing the Good News of Jesus
with all. As individuals we desire to live our lives as disciples of
Christ, letting his light shine through whatever we do. As a church,
St Lawrence seeks to do this through our Sunday and midweek
services, through our various activities in the Church Cottage and
our involvement in the community and beyond.
