Foundations

Would you appreciate the chance to explore the foundations of Christianity – perhaps for the first time of after a lifetime of being a Christian? Do you have questions about the faith? Are you seeking for answers?

If so, Foundations may be for you. This course consists of three independent mini courses. Contact the Vicar.

House groups

Friendly groups which meet on a weekly or fortnightly basis during school terms. Each session contains time for fellowship, worship, prayer and sharing thoughts on the Bible or a particular topic. The house groups reform each term to make new people more welcome.

Men Aloud Out and Ladies’ Bible Study

Sometimes it’s easier to talk about faith in a single-sex group. Men Aloud Out meet over a pint (of beer or lemonade, whatever takes your fancy) at the Trout Inn.  The Ladies Bible Study runs fortnightly.

Reading Groups

For those who want to go a little deeper, our Reading Groups provide the perfect opportunity. Led by Rev’d Andrew Kirk, the two groups read a chapter from a theological book, and then discuss it a monthly meeting.

In Depth

Our occasional In Depth events aim to explore topical issues from the perspective of Christian faith. A presentation of about half an hour is followed by a question and answer session. Previous topics explored have included: ‘The Da Vinci Code’; ‘God and the Greens’; suffering; Islam and Christianity; stress; science and religion.

This terms topic to be announced.

Prayer

Prayer is an essential part of the church’s service to the world, and it underpins everything that we do as a church. The Parish Prayer Meeting is an hour long monthly event in the cottage, focussed on supporting our church’s work in prayer.

Each topic is introduced and then the people present pray, either out loud or in silence. Meetings have been very good, and there has been a real spirit of intercession, but they could be better supported. We’d like to emphasise that everyone is welcome, and you don’t have to be praying out loud to join in.

Congregation members are also encouraged to form prayer triplets for support, prayer and perhaps study. As only three people are involved, there’s no formality or leader and you decide your own activities. If you’d like any help in setting one up, please speak to the Vicar.

 Are You

·         Coming to church, and wanting to explore the faith further?

·         Someone who's been a Christian for ages, but still not quite sure what you believe?

·         Thinking about being baptised or confirmed as an adult?

If you feel you fit any of those descriptions, then this course

`Foundations' is for you!

A small group of parishioners will be looking at the foundations of Christian faith. No previous knowledge is necessary! If you are interested, please get in touch with the Vicar, vicar@stlawrencelechlade.org.uk
